Another Champion for the Academy

Posted: 26th April 2011

Heinrich was crowned as the Champion at the Junior Foundation’s Order of Merit tournament held at Goose Valley on Sunday 17 April. He shot a superb round of level par, 72, on his way to a one shot victory. Heinrich is in striking form again and will surely be in contention on a few more occasions during this year.

Well done Heinrich, we are proud of you.

Welcome Martin and Mentz

Posted: 26th April 2011

The Louis Oosthuizen Junior Golf Academy welcomes its two new Academy members, the 9 year old Martin Vorster and the 14 year old Mentz Germishuys. Louis made a special trip to Mossel Bay to be at the induction function of the two new members. Here they all receive their clothing sponsored by Andrew Robinson from Ping (Leisure Brands), putters sponsored by Doug Villas from Ping clubs (Opal Sports), golf balls, gloves and shoes sponsored by Titleist and Footjoy.

Thank you to all the sponsors and also to Louis for supporting his Academy 57!

Club Championships 2011

Posted: 3rd February 2011

Our Junior Club Championship was held on 30 January and sponsored by Delfino’s Restaurant. Thank you Albert Wiffen! A couple of members also contributed towards the prizes: Jacques Meiring R220, Lukas Liebenberg R50, Wouter Kotze R50, Johan van Rensburg R50, Theo Scheepers R30, Andre Zietsman R10, Div de Villiers R50 and Grahame Goslett R10. Thank you for your contribution.

This was a closely contested championship and Jason Scheepers was crowned the champion on a winning score of 149 followed by Marco Nel and Heinrich Oosthuizen on 150. Playing the 17th hole the three of them were all on the same score, but Jason pulled ahead with a superb birdie putt. Marco had a three putt, so playing the 18th Jason was one ahead of Heinrich and two ahead of Marco. On 18 both Marco and Heinrich made birdies, so we all thought it was a play-off between Jason and Heinrich. After handing his score card in it was noted that Heinrich was actually 1 shot behind on a score of 150 - so Jason was Champ! Afterwards it came out that Heinrich scored himself a 5 on number 13 instead of the 4 he made thus costing him a place in the play-off. Costly error! None-the-less, all our juniors played well and all 4 Academy juniors came in the top 4 spots.
